Anyone got Roku?

As usual I'm late to the party and just heard about this device/service. Does anyone have a Roku box and/or are you familiar with it? It's supposed to be for streaming tons of stuff on your TV. I was reading that the menu options of what you subscribe to are quite varied and cheap like the "Drive-in Channel" which for $3 a year gets you unlimited 50's and 60's Scifi and horror movies and shows. Plus you get Netflix streaming and a bunch of other choices. Sounds cool. Anyone know about it?

How is the price and how is the quality?
There are three different versions. Will you be gaming with it? If so spend the extra twenty bucks. You will want to buy the hdmi cable. The quality is great. I signal problems,so both the appketv and roku do as well. That is only on one level. The first floor is fine. I think they start at 70. I bought the 90, because I already had the hdmi cable. I love having one.

I have one as well. Its great for Netflix and Amazon streaming, plus you can stream Pandora and TuneIn internet radio, you can connect it to your local network and access media on that as well. It has several channels for streaming content. But beware...you do have to pay separately for your Netflix account, your Amazon and any other paid service to be able to stream any content from those sources. The box is tiny, but the quality is great I recommend it over the AppleTV unit.

I have them both. The only thing that the appletv can do the Roku cannot is to stream itunes. The Appletv does not offer Amazon, or most others that the Roku does. I would choose the Roku if forced to pick.

Shaved@ I loooove your Avatar. Too cute.
Green for that.

I bought a Roku about 6 weeks ago and I am quite happy with it. The picture quality from Netflix is great with the HDMI cable. I'm hoping they add ESPN3 to the channel list someday though. ;)

The Roku box looks nice, I have an IPTV Panasonic Viera which comes with nexflix, Cinemanow, Amazon, Pandora and Napster installed. My computer comes with nexflix, Roxio and Hulu desktop installed. Between the two i have every thing the Roku box offers.

I wonder if Shaved got his Roku?
that is probably where he is right now....watching old 1960's scifi! can't you just see him with a dazed look on his face, drooling cheesewhiz all over his ratty old T-shirt as he watches yet another episode of lost in space? :D

For anyone interested, THE ROKU CHANNEL (free with only one commercial break at the beginning) currently has both ANDROMEDA and EARTH FINAL CONFLICT on

IDK how often they change up stuff, but I did do a roku search for ANDROMEDA and no other streamer seems to have it available (non pirate ones that is :) )

---------------------
I only maybe watched 1 or 2 eps of ANDROMEDA before and nothing of EARTH... so far I like ANDROMEDA -s1. Were either any good? i see ANDR. had 5 seasons---is there a thread for it here?

i wonder why it doesn't come up in a roku search?

normally, all the main pay for view channels come up to include nf, Amz,vudu, hulu and crackle

the only channel i searched on its own was Hulu--nada

It does on mine - I think you need to have the channels installed for Roku search to detect stuff in them.

no, i do have amz , but when search results come up, i nearly always get a option list with channels i do not have --like vudu-and the price

All i got were ANDROMEDA STRAIN results and A result for some actress who uses a stage name of andromeda who is in some movie

just must be a glitch

or ,is ANDROMEDA the full title? the thumbnail on TRC has it that way, but i did notice that the other show is GENE RODDENBERRYS EARTH FINAL CONFLICT

The full title I believe is Gene Ropddenberry's Andromeda. The first two seasons and season five are all good stuff.
