I think Flan has a very well-developed bullshit detector. Though I think maybe he didn't use it nearly so much until he had worked with Wright & Co. for a while.
It does make me wonder what will happen if anything does happen with SG-1 and/or SGA in the future and the current TPTB are ejected. Very few show writers and/or producers have a following all on their own, except for people like Joss Whedon or Joe Straczynski. The casual viewers see the actors and their characters as representatives of the show, and I think lack of recognition all to themselves just burned Wright, Cooper and Mallozzi up and their bitterness showed in the final product.
Something I'd really like to see is allowing the actors to give more input into how their characters are portrayed. They're the ones giving them nuance, often remembering details writers forget when it's inconvenient to the current script. I sensed a lot of frustration from Joe and other actors about that sort of thing.
There's no guarantee that new TPTB will do any better character or story wise, but they can't exactly get much worse, can they? At least if TPTB get booted, it would give us something new to bitch about, right?

IMHO, if you look at the really successful long term shows like NCIS and L&O (esp SVU), the actors almost "in essence" (or reality) take over the shows to some degree because they begin to "know better" than the actual writers how thier characters will respond to X situation because they have "walked that mile in the other guy's shoe's". If the writers are too stupid to realise that, well, they are just squandering a valuable resource and deserve to get kicked to the curb.
Writers tell a story, sure, but in "TV Land" it is up to the actors to sell the story. What I really don't get is why any show would retain a writer after they have told thier story for any reason but continuity.

Thanks for posting the info. I'll check out the new show, but I have to say that this also makes me miss Shep and the gang quite a bit.

last I heard he had said at a con that MGM wasn't interested but that was 6 months or so ago. I would LOVE for him to take over stargate in a production capacity....he would give us some REAL stargate that was worth watching.

And he apparently picked a house to live in located in Malibu for the surfing. I think he'll do fine. I noticed that he's already made some movies and is slated for a few more. I guess he works because he wants to, not that he has to.

Flan wears jeans, surfs, smiles and laughs, because he is HAPPY. You wont find him sticking out his pinky at some pretentious restaurant or flashing fake smiles at cameras like Joseph Mallozzi.
THAT is why I believe that if he truly wants to do Atlantis, the new MGM will listen. I really want his new show to do well, as it would be a great feather in his cap. Amanda Tapping is already a force to contend with. And she still has a job!

What's Flanigan's new show? Is it sci-fi related?
And yes, AT is pretty kick ass. I'm glad she's so successful post-SG1. TPTB for SGU could learn a thing or two from her on how to make a successful show.
